Lloyd's International Regulators Programme 2008
Over the past eight years, Lloyd’s has welcomed more than 100 insurance regulators and supervisors to attend its International Regulators Programme. The fact that Lloyd’s now hosts this four-day event on an annual basis as opposed to every two years is recognition of its success.
The programme aims to strengthen and maintain essential relationships with regulators and provide them with a greater understanding of Lloyd’s unique structure.
This year’s event will run from Monday 29 September through to Thursday 2 October 2008, with invitations to supervisory bodies in 21 countries throughout six continents.
The programme is designed to provide an in-depth insight into the operations of Lloyd’s and the London market. It encourages discussion and debate around major international regulatory themes and creates valuable opportunities for networking between colleagues from different regulatory backgrounds. The event is aimed at directors and senior staff with principal responsibility for insurance
supervision or regulation.
Sponsored by UK Trade and Investment, the programme offers a balance of topics, covering both insurance and reinsurance issues, led by industry experts from each field including:
- The UK Financial Services Authority
- The Corporation of Lloyd’s management team
- Lloyd’s underwriters and brokers
- London company market representatives
- Representatives from other City of London institutions
- UK Trade & Investment
The increasing number of issues and initiatives that Lloyd's is currently facing in a broad range of countries has resulted in a wider community of regulators being invited for 2008. These issues vary from new licence acquisition, to protecting Lloyd's existing trading rights against eroding legislation in a number of high-profile jurisdictions. As a result, it is important for Lloyd's to actively engage with regulators on an ongoing basis.
